Cloud 9 – boozing in the middle of the Pacific Ocean
Built on rafts, on cloud9 you can chill out on two (!) levels to cozy DJ music, sunbathe, eat pizza out of the stone oven, jump into the water, and have a perfect time in the middle of nowhere.
Yeah, you read it right. Cloud 9 is a bar in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Built on rafts, you can chill out on two (!) levels to cozy DJ music, sunbathe, eat pizza out of the stone oven, jump into the water, and have a perfect time. That’s exactly why Cloud 9 is a real highlight that you should definitely try out once you’re in Fiji. Our hotel on Malolo Lailai offered hotel guests daily tours to the bar in the afternoon, which unfortunately are a bit expensive and above all rather short. One is driven out to sea in a small motorboat and ends up at the floating bar sometime.
The captain then drops anchor and waits the whole time until the „time is up“. Effectively we were on the boat for 1.5 hours and would have liked to stay the whole evening, or at least would have liked to decide more independently when to leave the boat again. Imagine a sunset at this place… Many guests and also the hotel employees had told us that the time would be so short because the prices on the boat are expensive and therefore one wouldn’t want to spend more time in the bar… we did not feel that way at all. Of course, you can’t compare the prices with Berlin or Asia, but after all, you are on a raft bar in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. We found it quite remarkable that there was authentic, fresh pizza from the stone oven, and we gladly paid 10 € for it (it was not more than that).
It’s cool, right?
All in all, we enjoyed our time together a lot. Daniel jumped into the water several times from the 2nd floor, we ate pizza and drank Fiji beer and admired the turquoise sea, which was very rough and turbulent that day. While we were on Cloud 9, a strong wind was blowing, so the raft and therefore the whole bar was rocking quite a bit. I imagine Cloud 9 to be even more chilly on a windless day, but that’s a good reason to come back one day.
