There’s something magical about Lake Tahoe. From the clear blue water of the lake to the majestic, pine-filled mountains that surround it, Tahoe offers an unparalleled experience that has stirred people’s senses for generations.
Hi you all! I just got back from an epic stay at Black Bear Lodge in South Lake Tahoe, and let me tell you—it was off-the-charts awesome! From the moment I walked in, I felt like I was stepping into a cozy retreat, and the vibe was just so welcoming.
Despite the snowstorm and all the crazy weather warnings, we had an absolute blast exploring the area and taking advantage of everything the lodge had to offer. And let me tell you, when we rolled up, I was blown away. I’d seen pics of the place before, but being there in person was a whole other level. The lobby was straight-up stunning, with cool architecture and design that just took my breath away.
The Lodge
Nestled among towering pine trees, the Black Bear Lodge feels like stumbling upon a magical hideout in nature’s backyard.
As for the lodge itself, it’s like the perfect blend of a cozy cabin getaway and a luxurious resort. From its rustic wood beams to its charming stone accents, every corner oozes charm that just begs you to kick back and soak it all in. Step inside, and you’re greeted by comfy furnishings, crackling fireplaces, and those warm earthy tones that instantly make you feel right at home amidst the breathtaking Sierra Nevada landscape.
Now, let’s chat about the rooms—whether you’re seeking a snug hideaway or a spacious suite, Black Bear Lodge has you covered. And let me tell you, we hit the jackpot with an upgrade to a suite that felt like our own little slice of paradise. Picture a fully equipped kitchen, not one but two cozy fireplaces, and enough space to spread out and truly relax. Whether you’re planning a romantic rendezvous or a fun-filled family escapade, Black Bear Lodge is a great spot to hang out during your Tahoe getaway.
Isn’t it beautiful and absolutely stunning?
What we did inin TahoeTahoe
From the moment we arrived and checked in, we were blown away by the beauty of Black Bear Lodge’s lobby. The sun streaming through the large windows made it the perfect backdrop for some impromptu photo shoots—I had a deal with the lodge to create content for them in exchange for our stay, and the sunny weather was a photographer’s dream. With a glass of bubbly in one hand and my camera in the other, it felt like the ultimate start to a relaxing holiday weekend.
We were lucky to have friends from San Francisco join us for the weekend, and they were staying at the Coachman Hotel. After their day on the slopes, we met up at the gondola for some après-ski vibes, enjoying some Radlers and catching up on life.
For dinner, we had a reservation at Maggie’s, a fairly new restaurant at the Desolation Hotel. The food was delicious, the cocktails were flowing, and the atmosphere was so intimate and friendly—it was the perfect end to a perfect day.
The next morning, we had plans to hit the slopes, but unfortunately, all the tickets were sold out. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as the snow started coming down hard around lunchtime, and the lifts closed shortly after. Instead, Daniel and I took a leisurely walk in the snow, which led us to the Edgewood Hotel to meet up with our friends for some Espresso Martinis.
hearty food & snuggling up in front of the fireplace
While our friends headed home, Daniel and I decided to indulge our craving for hearty Bavarian cuisine at Himmel Haus. We feasted on Käsespätzle and Sauerbraten with extra Sauerkraut before rolling back to our cozy apartment at Black Bear Lodge. We lit the fireplaces, opened a bottle of red wine, and settled in front of the TV to watch the Grammys—Taylor Swift stole the show!
The next morning, we reluctantly left Tahoe, stopping in Sacramento for a day of remote work and catching up with a friend over dinner and drinks. Overall, it was an incredible weekend, and our stay at Black Bear Lodge made it all the more special. I’m grateful for the memories and can’t wait to return.
